The Hillary Trail

The Hillary Trail

The Hillary Trail is a stunning multi-day hike across the Waitekere Ranges regional park. Featuring native forest and coastal landscapes, the Hillary is probably the best and most strenuous walk in the Auckland area. It sounded like the perfect plan for this Queen's Birthday long weekend..

Rimutaka Cycle Trail

Rimutaka Cycle Trail

The official trail starts from Petone but we took the train to Lower Hutt and skip the first bit. In exchange we finished the ride in Eastbourne instead of finishing at the Orongorongo Station.

Taking on the Mighty Mount Ruapehu

Reaching Te Heuheu

Mount Ruapehu is one of the most iconic mountains of New Zealand. With its highest peak at 2,797 metres, it's the highest point in the North Island. I first visited the area in the winter of 2014. Ever since, the idea of giving it a try on snowy conditions was going around my mind. But it wasn't until the end of October that my mate Andy and I finally decided to give it a go.
